Mom's Banana Bread

My mom used to cook her banana bread for our family when I was a kid. It's the best damned banana bread I've ever tasted!

¼ C. shortening
2/3 C. sugar
2/3 C. bananas, mashed
1 egg
2 C. flour
½ t. baking soda
¼ t. salt
¼ t. baking powder
3 T. buttermilk (see note)
½ C. chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350°. Mix shortening and sugar. Blend bananas and egg. Stir in dry ingredients and buttermilk. Pour into a floured bread pan. Bake at 350° for 45-60 minutes.

Note: For the buttermilk you can substitute 3 T. milk with ¼ t. vinegar stirred in before adding to recipe.
